Architectural Review Committee

The Architectural Review Committee reviews all building plans for the Green Valley area that involve proposed subdivision plats, commercial buildings, and any residential housing units for more than three families. The Committee looks at the appearance, height, landscaping, and impact on the neighboring properties, traffic implications, drainage, signage, easements, grading, and many other details of each plan. Upon approval, a letter of acceptance is sent to Pima County, whereupon the County proceeds to study the plan for its approval.

Susanne Blodgett, Architectural Review Committee Chair

After having lived all over the country, Susanne Blodgett moved to Green Valley with her husband, Dan, in 1999. She has a strong background in volunteer leadership and a family tradition of civic involvement. Her career focused on residential building and the management of a builders association. Locally, Susanne volunteers on her San Ignacio Heights HOA board and has chaired several positions within Newcomers.

Archivist

The archivist is the individual responsible for collecting, preserving, and referencing current and historical reports, documents, letters, maps of streets and arroyos, land development, and approved building projects.

Chet Davis, Archivist

Chet Davis moved to Green Valley in 1990 from Southern California. An aeronautical engineer by training, Chet and his wife Jean, live in the Ranchettes HOA with an assortment of animals, including dogs, turtles and burros. Chet has been part of GVCCC for 14 years in a variety of roles, including Directory map cartographer, Government Liaison and Environmental Committee chair. Among Chet’s volunteer activities are as a Continental School Board member, and previous chair, member of the Green Valley Recreation Board and assisting the Lion’s with their recycling efforts.

Bylaws Committee

The Bylaws Committee is responsible for recommending additions, changes, or revisions to the GVCCC Bylaws/Articles of Incorporation that it finds necessary due to changing conditions.  The Bylaws Committee recommends specific wording or proposed revisions to the Executive Board and the Board of Representatives, recommending the proposed legislation be adopted or rejected. The Committee is responsible for ensuring language modifications are compatible with existing Bylaws.

Russ Symes, Bylaws Committee Chair

Russ Symes has been a permanent resident of Green Valley since October 1998. Russ and his wife Helen live in The Greens HOA. A former teacher, Russ also sold and serviced sailboats. Russ has served as Director and President of The Greens HOA, as well as, Director, President and Executive Secretary on the Santa Rita Springs Master HOA. He is a member of the Camera Club, Computer Club, Wood Shop and the Green Valley Arid Garden maintenance crew.

Citizen Corps

Citizen Corps brings together area first responders, Green Valley Fire District Rural Metro Fire Department, Pima Co. Sheriff Dept., and the Sahuarita Police to work on issues of local importance.  Citizen Corps supports Greater Green Valley Community Response Team( CERT), Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers, Sahuarita’s Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), amateur radio and local civic groups.

Bill Kerr, SAV Liaison/Citizen Corps Chair

Originally from Montana, Bill Kerr, has been a resident of Green Valley since 1999. Bill retired from the US Army after 21 years of service. He has also been in law enforcement, driven trucks and owned a small business. Bill is the President of the Greater Green Valley Community Response Team (CERT). Bill and his wife Patti in Desert Meadows Townhomes HOA.

Community Services Committee

The Community Services Committee provides guidance and coordination in areas not under the purview of other committees. It launched the Good Hands Guild to facilitate access to ethical unlicensed contractors. The Committee is currently working on the development of dog micro-parks and cleaning up orphaned properties.

Rich Richey, Community Services Committee Chair

Rich Richey has been a resident of Green Valley since 2001. He lives in Desert Hills Estates HOA with his wife, Sandi. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Rich retired from the Marine Corp with a rank of lieutenant colonel. He has worked as a photographer, newspaper ad director, contractor and cattleman. He works now as A Man for All Fix-Its and is a member of the Registrar of Contractor’s Industry Advisory Council. Rich founded the Green Valley Marine Corps League and the Good Hands Guild and serves in a variety of volunteer positions.

Environmental Committee

The Environmental Committee works on issues of air, noise, and light pollution; water use and abuse; and facilitates the semi-annual household hazardous waste collection program. It serves as a community resource, studying issues and preparing information sheets for the purpose of communicating with the media and residents. The committee is currently studying and responding to issues of water and air quality.

Tom Miller, Environmental Committee Chair

Tom Miller moved to Green Valley in 2006. A native of Indiana, Tom brings significant experience in water system safety and waste water management. Over his career, Tom has served as Superintendent of Public Works and Inspector of Municipal Water Systems. Tom and his wife Judy are residents of Fairways I HOA.

Government Liaison

The Government Liaison monitors existing and proposed Federal and State and County laws, ordinances and regulations affecting the welfare and concerns of the Green Valley Community. The Liaison keeps officers and the Board of Representatives informed of proposed changes, which suggest possible current or future action by the Council and communicates with governmental agencies regarding specific legislative actions that are of special interest to Green Valley residents.

Russ Symes has been a permanent resident of Green Valley since October 1998. Russ and his wife Helen live in The Greens HOA. A former teacher, Russ also sold and serviced sailboats. Russ has served as Director and President of The Greens HOA, as well as, Director, President and Executive Secretary on the Santa Rita Springs Master HOA. He is a member of the Camera Club, Computer Club, Wood Shop and the Green Valley Arid Garden maintenance crew.

Tom Ward has spent nearly fifty years in the business and politics of economic development. In the public sector, he has served as a senior executive at the city, county and state levels in the states of New York and Virginia. He has served as a consultant to the governors of New York and Pennsylvania and to the Office of the Vice President of the United States. Tom was raised in upstate New York. Tom moved to Green Valley from Illinois in 2003 and currently lives in Villas East.

A native of Illinois, Bill Copeland spent his career with the Boy Scouts of America in the Midwest. Bill and his wife, Carol, moved to Green Valley in 2002 from Naperville, Illinois where he served on BSAs National Staff. Bill was a Board Member and President of Canoa Seca Estates II HOA and has been a member of GVCCC’s Board of Representatives since 2005. Currently a member of the Rotary Club of Green Valley, Bill has been a Rotarian since 1979.

Health and Human Services Committee

The Health and Human Services works with existing medical and health and related human services providers to assure the availability of a continuum of community and home based supportive services. It takes the lead in coordinating and maintaining a registry of social service and health care providers and in ensuring preventative and acute health care services are available in Green Valley. Current projects include Walk Across Arizona, Volunteer Clearinghouse and working with the Town of Sahuarita and Carondelet Health Network to facilitate the establishment of a hospital in our Community.

Kathy Simpson, Health & Human Services Chair

Originally from Indiana, Kathy Simpson moved to Green Valley and Sonata HOA in 2006. Kathy served as Mayor of Venice, Florida, as well as terms on that community’s City Council and Planning Commission. She also served on the area’s Noise Abatement and Tourist Development Commissions and the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council. Trained as a Speech & Hearing Therapist, Kathy has been active in a number of volunteer organizations, including the Mayo Clinic in Florida and has participated in five medical missions to Haiti.

Health and Human Services Support Committee

The Health and Human Services Support Committee facilitates the work of health and human service providers by helping to coordinate their services and projects and by securing additional volunteers and resources for their work. To achieve its mission the Committee enhances its understanding of the providers’ services and networks with them and the Green Valley community.

Membership Liaison

The Membership Liaison works with perspective members of GVCCC to facilitate the application process for the organization, including review of CC&Rs and other community documents.


Gorman Fisher, Membership Liaison Chair

Originally from Michigan, Gorman Fisher and his wife, Cathie, moved to Green Valley in 1998. Gorman worked as a manufacturer/supplier of plastic parts for the auto industry. An active community volunteer, Gorman has served on the board and currently President of the San Ignacio Vistas HOA. He also serves as board member and treasurer of the Green Valley Water District, MPC. A prodigious and talented photographer, Gorman serves on the Exhibit Committee of the Green Valley Camera Club.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee prepares a slate of candidates for the officers of the Corporation to be presented to the Board of Representatives in alternate years at the first regular meeting of the Board in December, to be voted on at the first regular meeting of the Board in March. When a vacancy occurs in any elective office between elections, the Committee makes recommendations to the Board relative to the filling of the vacancy.

Pandemic Resource Specialist

The role of the Pandemic Resource Specialist will be to keep our unincorporated community up-to-date on any global disease outbreak, including changes in planning assumptions, response capacities, or information on potential pandemic strains and subsequent diseases.

Arlene Boyuls, Pandemic Resource Specialist

From California, Arleen Boyuls has been a resident of Green Valley since 1995. She lives in Esperanza Estates HOA. Arleen works as an activity director in an assisted living facility. Involved in many community organizations, Arleen is past president of the Green Valley Chamber of Commerce, American Business Women’s Association and the Rotary Club of Green Valley.

Personnel Committee

The Personnel Committeereviews personnel policies, recommends policy changes to the Executive Board and serves as an Ad Hoc Grievance Committee. The committee assures implementation of the personnel policies by staff and Executive Board.

Glenn Lundell, Personnel Committee Chair

Glenn Lundell moved to Green Valley from Anchorage, Alaska in 1996. After retiring from the Navy with a rank of Lieutenant Commander, Glenn provided leadership in employee relations, human resource management and organizational management to a number of public and private organizations, including the municipality of Anchorage, Alaska, the State of Alaska and the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. Glenn is an active community volunteer, including President of the Portillo Hills II HOA, Board Member and President of Green Valley Recreation, the Navy League of the United States and the Fleet Reserve Association. Glenn and his wife, Arlis, currently reside in San Ignacio Vistas II HOA.

Pima Association of Governments (PAG) Liaison

The PAG Liaison serves as the conduit of information between the Council and the PAG Regional Council. This individual informs GVCCC of opportunities for participation with PAG on their boards and committees.

Planning and Zoning Committee

The Planning & Zoning Committeewas created to supervise the orderly growth and development of the Green Valley Community. In the planning area, the Committee reviews all commercial and residential projects to insure their compatibility with authorized land use, public safety and community aesthetics. In the zoning area, the Committee works closely with Pima County staff to enforce the county zoning ordinances. All Green Valley zoning and variance requests presented to the County are first reviewed by the Committee and its recommendations are forwarded to the county. In the area of long range planning, the Committee monitors the implementation of the 10-year Community Plan prepared by GVCCC in 2005.

eddie

Eddie Peabody, Jr. - Planning and Zoning Chair

Eddie Peabody, Jr. moved to Green Valley in 2005 from Northern California. For 40 years, he served as a professional in Community Development for local governments in California and Arizona, as well as a private consultant.  Eddie and his wife Barbara, live in the Las Campanas - Sonoma HOA. Eddie sits on the GVCCC Architectural Review Committee, as well as the Architectural Committee of his HOA.  An active community volunteer, Eddie currently serves Green Valley Recreation as Vice President of the Board and as Chair of the GVR Board Affairs Committee.


Public Utilities Liaison

The Public Utilities Liaison was established to monitor utilities companies in Green Valley to insure that adequate water, electric, gas, telephone and sewage services are provided to this community at a fair price. In addition, associated issues concerning conservation, the environment, architectural & scenic harmony, and intra-utility cooperation shall also be monitored.

Traffic and Arroyos

The Traffic and Arroyos Committee works with State and County bodies to ensure present and future locations of roads, traffic signs and signals, traffic patterns, pedestrian crosswalks, multi-purpose lanes, median, and street lighting to promote maximum safety and efficiency. The Committee has established a system for the orderly maintenance of streets and arroyos in the Green Valley area. The Committee and GVCCC staff provide both a method for homeowner associations or individuals to rapidly report street and/or arroyo problems to proper authority and a means to monitor their remedy.

Sandra Stone, Traffic and Arroyos Chair

A native of Texas, Sandra Stone moved to Green Valley from Syracuse, New York in 1995. Sandra has taught mathematics in public schools in Texas, Kentucky, Illinois, New York and Florida. An active volunteer, Sandra has held a variety of offices in her Viewpoint HOA, including President. Currently, Sandra chairs the Canoa Ranch Trust/Oversight Committee of the Pima County Board of Supervisors.
